During the initial stages of the Covid pandemic, sports fans have had a rather torrid time with sporting events cancelled and then fans not being allowed into stadiums. Luckily, sporting events are back and you can now watch your favourite teams play and also place bets at our online casino.
The men’s Euros certainly whet the appetite for major sporting events and luckily 2022 looks like it will certainly deliver too. We’re going to take a look at the top sporting events that sports betting fans can look forward to next year, as well as how you can place bets at Grosvenor Casinos.
Winter Olympics
- Where: Beijing, China
- When: 4–20 February 2022
The multi-sport winter event is the last of the three consecutive Olympics held in East Asia. Taking place in Beijing and other towns in Hebei Province in China, the Winter Olympics, or the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, are the perfect way to start 2022 with an adrenaline rush.
You can look forward to events such as alpine skiing, curling, ice hockey, snowboarding, speed skating, ski jumping and cross country skiing. Great Britain managed to get five medals in the 2018 Winter Olympics and hopefully this number will be even more impressive in next year’s event.
Women’s Cricket World Cup
- Where: New Zealand
- When: 4 March – 3 April 2022
Women’s sport is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves. The Women’s Cricket World Cup is taking place in New Zealand and is expected to be well attended. The Kiwis love their cricket and this is the pinnacle event for the women’s sport, with 31 matches to be played over a month. The tournament was meant to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
This event will see the world’s best women’s cricket teams compete in six cities across Aotearoa – in Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
England is the current titleholder and took the trophy in 2017 on home soil against India. They will be defending their title against some serious competition though, so it should be a really great tournament to watch.
UEFA Women’s Euro 2022
- Where: England
- When: 6–31 July 2022
Next year, expect another cracking women’s competition in the UEFA Women’s Euro tournament. Europe definitely has the largest contingent of high-quality football teams, with competitions like the Champions League and FA Women’s National League attracting more and more interest every year.
The 2022 UEFA European Women’s Football Championship will take place on home soil next summer, with the final to be played at Wembley Stadium in London.
Northern Ireland will take part in the competition for the first time and the Netherlands national team comes in as defending champions.
Rugby League World Cup

The original tournament was meant to be held in 2021, but was postponed and will now take place in England in 2022.
The opening match of the Rugby League World Cup will take place at St. James Park in Newcastle and the double-header final will be held at Old Trafford in Manchester. England was the runner-up in 2017, losing out 0-6 to Australia. The women’s version of this tournament will take place at the same venues after the men’s tournament has ended.
FIFA World Cup 2022
- Where: Qatar
- When: 21 November – 2 December 2022
In what is probably the most exciting upcoming sporting event in 2022, the FIFA World Cup will take the main stage in Qatar towards the end of the year. The tournament is held every four years and is undoubtedly the most prestigious footballing event in the world. A total of 32 national teams participate in the penultimate competition with the hopes of being crowned world champions.
France comes into the tournament as the defending champion, after taking the title against Croatia in 2018 in Russia. This is set to be a huge World Cup for Gareth Southgate’s young Three Lions team that is looking to bring the first title back to England since 1966.
