Snooker | World Championships | Preview and Odds

The jewel in the snooker calendar is upon us with the World Championship at the Crucible. All the game’s best will be on show in Sheffield and here are the thoughts of our snooker betting expert on the outright betting.

O’Sullivan the rightful favourite

‘The Rocket’ has been in fine form this year with two tournament victories and as is customary, he is the one to beat here. He was won five World Championships, but not since 2013 and he’ll be desperate to get his hands on the trophy again.

His victory at the Players Championship included his 1000th career century and he comes into this as the clear 9/4 favourite with Grosvenorsport.com.

While he’s plenty short enough, the world number one’s form this year has been very good and he looks in fantastic shape to become just the third man to win the tournament for a sixth time.

Selby can bounce back to form

I’m fancying the world’s top-two to fight out for the title as I also like the chances of Mark Selby at 9/1.

Admittedly, the 2017 world champion hasn’t been at his best this year with quarter finals at the World Grand Prix and Tour Championship his best results.

Having said that, he’s not the world number two for nothing and he looks a big price considering he has shown he has the ability to perform on the biggest stage on a number of previous occasions.

I’m hoping he can start well and if he’s impressive early on in the competition, that 9/1 could look very big and I guarantee other competitors won’t look forward to the thought of playing him.
