Slaney’s Scottish Preview

CELTIC ARE BACK!

It’s the weekend preview you’ve all been waiting for… but first let me make my predictions for the season ahead.

I believe this is going be the best standard of league Scotland has seen in years. Rangers have strengthened, Aberdeen look good, Hibs are going well under Jack Ross, and we’ve got Hearts back in the top flight.

Although Rangers are favourites, I think the arrival of Joe Hart and James McCarthy coming home will excite Celtic fans and I’m tipping them to snatch the title back from Ibrox.

This year’s relegation battle will be interesting with a few teams in the mix but I’ve plucked for Livingston. They’re struggling to score goals while they miss the presence of the JET and bus driver Gary Holt.

He could’ve won it last year but he’s definitely winning it this year. Shaun Rooney is a stick on for player of the season. He scored the winning goals in both cup finals last season and a Scotland call-up is surely on the horizon. He’ll continue where he left off and have a storming campaign. Top guy and top player.

Now let’s get to my tips for this weekend’s games…

Dundee United v Rangers

Prediction: 1-2

It wasn’t a great night in Europe for Rangers on Tuesday, but I expect them to use their disappointment as motivation to bounce back against Dundee United on Saturday. I see Gerrard’s side banging in two early goals before Charlie Mulgrew responds with a ferocious 50-yard effort as consolation.

St Mirren v Hearts

Prediction: 1-1

I love what Jim Goodwin has brought to Paisley, and they’ve started off reasonably well with some good performances in the League Cup, before their draw with Dundee last weekend. I’d went for St Mirren in my acca on Right In The Coupon but I’ve had a re-think and opted for the draw. I think Hearts look strong with Andy Halliday in particular a danger and he’s a cert to score from the half-way line.

Celtic v Dundee

Prediction: 4-1

Mark my words… CELTIC ARE BACK! Listen, I’ve got a lot of respect for Dundee but I’m warning them to stay away from Glasgow this weekend as Ange Postecoglou will unleash 11 wild dogs on them and it could be a battering for the Dark Blues. They scored four in midweek and I expect the same again with Jason Cummings to bag a sympathy goal.

Hibs v Ross County

Prediction: 2-0

Malky MacKay is at the helm for The Staggies this season and I expect him to set up his side to be stuffy and keep it congested in the middle of the park. However, under Jack Ross, Hibs look attractive and I fancy them to finish third this season. I think they’ll have too much for County on Sunday with Kevin Nisbet netting a double.

Livingston v Aberdeen

Prediction: 0-2

Aberdeen look a real danger this season. They’ve got a goal threat now in Christian Ramirez, added to the experience of Scott Brown and the talent of Lewis Ferguson, it’s starting to take shape for Stephen Glass. I can’t see even the greatest full back in Scottish football history Nicky Devlin stopping the Dons from taking all three points here.

St Johnstone v Motherwell

Prediction: 0-0

I’ll say it right now… Callum Davidson is making this country proud! He led the club to unprecedented success last season by securing a cup double and he’s only went and drawn with Galatasaray in Turkey this week. He’s left me breathless. My old club however look like they’ll be alright this season and in Kevin Van Veen they’ve got a genius – the guy is unbelievable. I’m going for a draw here though as I see both teams cancelling each other out.
