Sir Geoff Hurst | ‘Declan Rice could be a future England captain’

West Ham legend and Grosvenorsport.com ambassador Sir Geoff Hurst shares his thoughts on Declan Rice following his call-up to the England squad for the games against the Czech Republic and Montenegro.

“Declan Rice has earned rave reviews among West Ham supporters and it’s good to see a young, homegrown player doing well for the club.

“Declan is playing with good players, such as Felipe Anderson who is starting to perform well and Mark Noble is in there providing good experience for him too, so it’s good that he can learn from honest professionals and that will stand him in good stead.

“He seems like an honest, hard-working young player so I hope he can keep doing well for West Ham, and that can only be beneficial for England now that he has made the decision to play for the national team.

“I don’t think he’ll be first pick at the moment as there’s some very good players in his position right now, but I think he will be happy to be in the squad and will be looking to make his mark from the subs bench.

“I think Declan is a player for the future when it comes to the national side. He could have an immediate impact, but it’s more important that he becomes a mainstay in years to come. Who knows – he could become England captain in years to come.”
