Rugby Union | Premiership Rugby final weekend | Preview and Odds

All six Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches kick off at 4pm this weekend, and with plenty on the cards, here’s what you need to be keeping an eye out for.

Who will make the semi-finals, and who will be going home in tears on the last day? Read on as our rugby union expert casts his eye over the weekend’s biggest stories and gives you the best bets ahead of the action.

Leaving it late

Northampton Saints have made a late surge, winning four of their last five matches, and now sit in that all important fourth and final play-off place in the table.

The job is not yet over for them, however. They take on league leaders Exeter Chiefs on the final day, and the Saints are just one point above Harlequins in fifth, meaning that it’s all to play for on the final day.

The Chiefs themselves need a win to secure top spot, with Saracens waiting in the shadows to pounce on any potential slip-ups this weekend – so all that means it’s going to be a hard, gruelling contest for the Saints.

Harlequins are back

After a 10th-place finish last season, no outcome on Saturday could dent the improvements that Harlequins have enjoyed under Paul Gustard.

That said, it would be a crushing blow for Quins if they were to miss out on a play-off spot finish this season, who have enjoyed one of their finest year’s in the league to date.

They visit Wasps, with a win required if they are to overtake Northampton and return to the position they have occupied for a large part of the season.

Odds

After all is said and done, there can be only four semi-finalists. We expect the Saints to slip up on the final day, with Harlequins taking a huge step in their development this season, making the semi-final in dramatic fashion.

You can get Exeter Chiefs to beat Northampton Saints at 2/5, whilst you can also get Harlequins to win at  11/10 with Grosvenorsport.com.
