London Lowdown: The BYOB places you need to visit

It’s the end of the month and we’re all feeling the Christmas pinch, so bring your own booze to these well-known establishments and save yourself a few pennies – which you can then spend on more food, obviously.

Hawskmoor, Spitalfields

Hawksmoor

Sshhh! This may be London’s best kept secret. Hawksmoor might be a top restaurant – if you like meat, it’s the place to visit – but it also has its very own BYOB night once a week. Book your table for a Monday night and you’ll only have to pay £5 for corkage, which seems pretty reasonable, considering the cosy surroundings and excellent service.

Breakfast Club, Soho

It’s a well-known fact that The Breakfast Club isn’t just a place for eggs on toast but did you know their Soho venue is BYOB every dinner time. With an extensive menu from Nachos to posh burgers, bring your own wine and stay for the night. Well, until closing time anyway.

Bonnie Gull, Clerkenwell

Bonnie-Gull

Have you visited this quirky little seafood café yet? Swap your Sunday roast for Jersey rock oysters or the house special Bouillabaisse and wash it down with your own drink – with no corkage fee.

BYOB is a Sunday-only event but considering the popularity of this restaurant right now, we’re very impressed.

BYOC, Covent Garden

Bring Your Own Cocktail bar is an such a simple innovation, we’re annoyed we didn’t think of it ourselves. First you need to bring a bottle (or three) of your favourite spirits and then pay the set £25 fee on the door. For that fee their resident mixologist will combine your booze with his delightful offerings from his specialist trolley. Choose from syrups, fresh juices and even herbs and spices and you’ll get the exact drink you fancy, at a fraction of the cost.
