Comprehensive Guide: How To Play Blackjack

The aim of the game is simple, play against a dealer and whoever gets their final score closer to 21, wins.

This time you’ll be playing with cash chips so put them on the box in front of you. If you don’t have your chips yet, place your money in front of you and the dealer will exchange it for chips.

The dealer will then deal two cards to each of the players and one to themselves. Jacks, Queens, and Kings count as 10 and Aces can be 11 or 1 depending on how the score affects your hand.

If you want to draw more cards to get your hand closer to 21, when it’s your turn, just ask the dealer for another card. If you’re happy with your hand as it is, say ‘no more cards’. If your cards total over 21 then you’re Bust and have lost so better luck next time.

When you and the other players are happy with their hands, the dealer will draw one or more cards for themselves.

Winning bets are paid even money, which means if you’ve bet £1 you’ll get your bet back and win £1.

If your first two cards are a 10 and an Ace then you have Blackjack and you’ll be paid 3 to 2, so you’ll get your £1 bet back and win £1.50.

If the dealer has the same hand as you it is a tie and your bet stands. Ask the dealer about insuring against that happening if you have a Blackjack.

Doubling – You can double your original bet by buying one further card only. Ask your dealer how.

Split Bets – You can split your hand if the first two cards you receive are a Pair. This means you get two chances of beating the dealer. For each new hand, you must place the equivalent of your original bet. If you split Aces the dealer will only add one card to each hand. If that card is a 10 or court card, it counts as 21 not Blackjack.
