Harry’s Aintree Day 2 Preview

13:45 Aintree Handicap Hurdle

I start off with Langer Dan in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle. He was unfortunate to get brought down in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham, but he’s been fine since then. He’s done plenty of jumping at home and should be ready for this. The track and ground will suit him and hopefully he’s got a great chance.

Lucky Max also runs, and Bridget takes the ride on him. He’s quite new to us and we don’t know too much about him yet. He actually got brought down in the same race as Langer Dan. He won a few races in Ireland and progressed through the handicap. He could have an each-way chance.

14:20 Top Novices’ Hurdle

Jonbon is at the top of the market here after running a very good race when second to Constitution Hill in the Supreme at Cheltenham. It’s been quite a quick turnaround for these horses since then and you don’t really know how they are going to cope with it until they run. Jonbon deserves to be favourite though.

One who could run well at a price is Chris Gordon’s Aucunrisque, who has some solid form to his name and looks like a nice horse.

14:55 Mildmay Novices’ Chase

This is a really competitive race with just four runners, but what a four they are!

I can help but be very impressed with what L’Homme Presse has done and I think he’ll take all the beating. Obviously, Bravemansgame comes here a fresh horse after he missed Cheltenham due to the rain they had on the Wednesday, but I still think he’s going to have to put in an improved performance to beat Venetia’s horse.

15:30 Marsh Chase

Allmankind was disappointing last time at Fontwell when we gave him a run back over hurdles. He returns to a course and distance he’s won at in the past. We’ve been doing things a little differently with him at home and might ride him differently here. He seems in great order and if he can reproduce his best form then he’ll have a good chance.

I think the one we have to beat is Fakir D’Oudaries. Two-and-a-half miles on a flat track is absolutely tailormade for him, as he showed when winning this race last year.

16:05 Topham Handicap Chase

Spiritofthegames has been a grand old servant for us and ran well once again at Cheltenham. He’s got no weight on his back here and if he takes to the fences then he could run well. This race can be a bit of a lottery, but he’s got plenty of experience so hopefully he goes out there and enjoys himself again.

16:40 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle

This is a big step up in class for Duke Of Bronte. He was a very good horse on the Flat and won impressively for us last time out at Doncaster. We’re not quite sure what he beat that day, but he’s done loads of work since then and has plenty of ability. I’ll be trying to get him to settle and then hopefully he will see out the three-mile trip. I think he’s got a real each-way chance.

It looks a competitive race and the unbeaten Skytastic could be the one we have to beat.

17:15 Park Palace Ponies Handicap Hurdle

We run Faivoir, who has to shoulder top-weight, but Tristan Durrell takes off a handy seven pounds and he’s riding really well at the moment. It looks like this race has cut up a bit and Faivoir always runs his race, so he could be another with an each-way chance.
