Formula 1 | German Grand Prix | Preview and Odds

The German Grand Prix returns to the F1 calendar this year, and Hockenheim is the venue for the latest battle between Lewis Hamilton and home favourite, Sebastian Vettel.

After a controversial British Grand Prix where Vettel picked up the win ahead of Hamilton, our betting expert looks at the best Formula One bets ahead of the action in Germany at Hockenheim

Home Hopes

Sebastian Vettel has a small lead in the Drivers’ Championship, and will look to add to that in his home Grand Prix.

With tensions high between Ferrari and Mercedes after incidents in the last few races, an excellent performance will be required to assert Vettel as the lead driver in this year’s Championship.

Teammate Kimi Raikkonen holds the record lap time at this venue, and his experience will be vital to hold off the Mercedes if Vettel is to win, and he is 6/4 for victory this weekend.

Mercedes Magic

The Mercedes team can feel hard done by in the last couple of races. Some incidents with Ferrari, and a rare team mistake has left them floundering a little in the Drivers’ Championship.

Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will be keen to rectify any poor results recently, and it is tough to look further than the Mercedes in their home race.

Hamilton will be desperate to reclaim top spot in the Drivers’ Championship, and is 11/8 to win the race.

Red Bull

Both the Red Bull cars will fancy their chances at Hockenheim, and Max Verstappen’s daring racing style could pay huge dividends here.

A lot will depend on how he qualifies, and if he can have a mistake free drive, but if the chips fall Verstappen’s way in this race, the Dutchman could make a real statement.

This race should be one of the more interesting in the calendar so far, with neither Mercedes nor Vettel wanting to give an inch in their home Grand Prix.

Away from the glare of the spotlight, I think Max Verstappen will pull off another superb drive and clinch victory at 8/1.
