Formula 1 | British Grand Prix | Preview and Odds

Formula One returns to Silverstone this weekend, with Sebastian Vettel leading the race for the Drivers’ Championship by a single point after Lewis Hamilton failed to complete the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend

Here are our motor racing expert picks the best formula 1 bets ahead of the British Grand Prix.

Bottas to upstage home favourite

With Hamilton poised to become the most successful British driver at Silverstone ever, he is overwhelmingly the odds-on favourite.

A win here would see him reclaim the lead from rival Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers’ Championship. However, I think that Valtteri Bottas, who qualified faster than his teammate in Austria, offers excellent value of 11/2 at a track that will suit the Mercedes.

Ricciardo to maintain Red Bull charge

Away from the Mercedes, Max Verstappen had an excellent drive last weekend for Red Bull, and I can see them maintaining their momentum that started with Daniel Ricciardo’s superb Monaco win.

Despite Verstappen being the faster driver, I think a track like Silverstone deserves respect, and Ricciardo will be able to drive a masterful race on such a technical course. He is available to back at 8/1.

Leclerc to upset the establishment

Charles Leclerc has had an outstanding debut season, and looks earmarked for a Ferrari seat should Kimi Raikkonen leave at the end of the season.

If he can avoid trouble early on, and have a bit of luck, there is a real chance he can push the Sauber into a podium place, as he has that much talent. Although an outside bet, it offers very good value at 50/1 to podium.
