A festive treat of Boxing Day football has come and gone and before you know it we are already being treated to another match week as the last weekend of 2019 is here.
So as the 20th round of Premier League football rolls around, our football expert looks at all the Premier League odds for a busy weekend of betting.
Main selections:
Over 2.5 Spurs goals at Carrow Road 15/8.
Share of the spoils for Arsenal and Chelsea 14/5.
Burnley to get the better of United 16/5.
Brighton & Hove Albion v AFC Bournemouth
Brighton have been holding their own in the league this season, with better squads than theirs often facing a tougher task than expected when taking them on. Bournemouth haven’t had an altogether much different campaign to the Seagulls thus far and, given their close proximity in the table, the draw could be worth backing at 29/10.
Newcastle United v Everton
After having to contest with a trip to Old Trafford last time out, Newcastle will be glad to see out 2019 with a game on home soil. The Toffees go into this one as 5/4 favourites to win but, at that price, it’s worth looking elsewhere. Richarlison scored in three consecutive games for Everton earlier this month and at 2/1 to score at any time could certainly prove a shrewd bet.
Southampton v Crystal Palace
Southampton can be backed to take this one at Evens, which is slightly surprising given that overall they have had a relatively poor first half of the season and are taking on an Eagles outfit who have conceded considerably fewer goals than them. All things considered, if you’re prepared to take heed of the odds then a 1-0 Saints win at 6/1 could be the way to go.
Watford v Aston Villa
It’s the home side who are odds on favourites against Aston Villa on Saturday with Watford certainly stronger at home, having taken four points from their last two at Vicarage Road against Palace and Manchester United. However, they’ve been anchored to the depths of the table for much of the season and my money is on Villa at 5/2.
Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur
Norwich haven’t won any of their last six home games and won’t be looking forward to a trip from Spurs. It was a bitter pill to swallow when the visitors lost to Chelsea recently and Jose Mourinho will see this journey to Carrow Road as a way to finish the calendar year on a positive note. He has taken a shine to Dele Alli, who is available at 15/8 to score.
West Ham United v Leicester City
After a top of the table battle when playing host to Liverpool last time out, Leicester head to the capital to face West Ham who, theoretically, shouldn’t put up too much of a fight for the Foxes. The Hammers aren’t safe from the prospect of a relegation battle come the end of the season. It could be an entertaining one, with over 3.5 goals priced at 7/5.
Burnley v Manchester United
Saturday’s late kick-off takes Manchester United the short way to Turf Moor for a fixture between the pair that probably has never been so close on paper. Points-wise, they have been operating on a fairly similar level this season and even though the Red Devils are odds on here, Burnley will run them close and could invariably sneak a draw at 5/2.
Arsenal v Chelsea
Tammy Abraham and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been two of the league’s most consistent scorers this campaign, so a London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea certainly gets the pulse racing. The Blues have outperformed their hosts by far this season but the form book goes out the window here. Over 3.5 goals at 7/5 is the bet.
Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers
As Liverpool look to take their incredible form into 2020, they just need to get past a visit from Wolves in one piece, with the latter also enjoying a fantastic season. The Reds are overwhelming odds-on favourites here so look to a different market for value. It’s 15/8 for the home team to win and both teams to score which on paper is more-than plausible.
Manchester City v Sheffield United
Only a couple of teams have conceded fewer goals than Sheffield United in the league this season, as they continue to contest for a European spot in the table. That said, City haven’t been reliant on just one or two people for goals and instead have a group of gifted scorers who will be hard to stifle. Again, a draw and both teams to score is the bet at 13/8.
