Get your skates on and take to the ice at one of these festive ice rinks.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

When: 30 Oct – 4 Jan 2015

The vibe: Set beside the majestic Natural History Museum, this picture-perfect ice rink sees skaters gliding around a twinkling Christmas tree. Open until 10pm from Thursday to Saturday, 9pm every other day and open until midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Eat and drink: Warm up by supping mulled wine or hot chocolate in The Café Bar which is open until the Ice Rink closes. You can also munch on a snack or a meal between skates, before soaking up a bird’s eye view of the ice rink from the cafe’s open-air balcony.

Eyeskate at The London Eye

The vibe: Basking in the shadow of the iconic London Eye on the South Bank of the River Thames, this dreamy ice rink is a beautiful spot to go for a festive skating session. Open until 9pm.

Eat and drink: Tea, coffee, snacks, sandwiches and cakes at the Zen Café, which can be found inside the London Eye ticket office.

Skate at Somerset House Ice Rink

The vibe: Set within Somerset House’s neoclassical courtyard, this gorgeous ice rink is abuzz at night with club nights featuring big-name DJs. Get into the festive spirit on Tuesday nights, when skaters can glide along to Christmas anthems, as well as soaking up a fun dose of live entertainment, yuletide treats and late-night shopping. Open until 10.15pm.

Eat and drink: Après skate, you can enjoy cocktails and fondue, or champagne and truffles at Fortnum’s Lodge, operated by upmarket department store Fortnum & Mason. Alternatively, sip a mulled wine or a creamy hot chocolate at the cosy Tom’s Kitchen Skate Lounge.

Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink

The vibe: Skate under the stars at this outdoor ice rink in front of King Henry VIII’s magnificent palace, on the banks of the historic river Thames. At night, the glorious Tudor palace is beautifully lit up. Open until 10pm.

Eat and drink: The Ice Bar & Cafe serves a range of winter drinks and festive snacks.

Winterville at Victoria Park

When: 2 – 31 Dec

The vibe: Based in Hackney’s Victoria Park, East London’s new winter festival will have its own sparkling outdoor ice rink. You can take photos while you skate by visiting Olympus’ Test & Wow Tent where you can test drive Stylus Tough cameras for free. Open until 10pm on Friday to Sunday, and until 9pm on Monday to Thursday.

Eat and drink: Enjoy a winter warmer at the Boathouse Cafe, which offers a great view of all the action.
