Five of London’s coolest film clubs

Escape the multiplex and catch a flick in one of London’s coolest locations. From rooftops to hot-tubs, drive-ins to cemeteries, here are a few of our favourites:

Hot Tub Cinema

Combining hot tubs and classic 80s movies, this aquatic cinematic experience makes for a memorable night out. Kicking off on 6 May, the exciting programme includes The Lion King, Top Gun, Grease, Ghostbusters and Dirty Dancing. Tub side waiter service means there’s no need to leave the comfort of the warm bubbles if you fancy a drink or cinema-style snacks; just be prepared to see lots of soggy popcorn floating around the tub.

Where: Former Shoreditch Underground, 7 Code Street, London E1 5ER

Price: £35 for a single ticket, £190 for a private hot tub (seating up to six – equivalent to £31.50 each).

Pillow Cinema

Watch a movie while cuddled up on a giant beanbag under a blanket at the aptly-named Pillow Cinema, which bills itself as “the cosiest night in night out”. Screening a variety of hot new releases, thought-provoking documentaries and well-loved classics, the upcoming line-up includes The Theory of Everything, Fight Club and The Imitation Game. Guests are encouraged to bring their own pillow for the height of cosiness.

Where: Former Shoreditch Underground (see address above).

Price: Tickets cost £20 per fatboy beanbag (£10 each when shared between two guests).

Rooftop Film Club

If you don’t want to be stuck inside a dark cinema on a balmy summer night, see a movie with the popular Rooftop Film Club. Live the high life by watching classic, cult and recent film releases atop four of London’s finest rooftops, from the Queen of Hoxton to Kensington Roof Gardens. Movie-goers will be given high quality wireless headphones and there will be plenty of fabulous food and drink to choose from. Films will be shown from the end of April until 30 September.

Price: Tickets are £14.

Drive In Film Club

Put your pedal to the metal for London’s only drive-in cinema, where you can pull up a spot and catch a reel on a giant screen from the comfort of your car. Based in London’s Alexandra Palace, film-goers can expect stateside-style snacks, including popcorn, gourmet hotdogs, sweets and drinks, to be delivered to your car door by roller-skating staff. The summer season includes classic, cult and new releases, including American Psycho, Blade Runner, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Grease Sing-a-Long. High quality audio is transmitted via your car’s radio.

Price: Tickets are £22.

Nomad Cinema

Like Glastonbury for film fans, London’s only roaming open-air cinema pops up at a raft of atmospheric locations across the city, from cemeteries to museums, gardens to lidos. Bring a blanket and a picnic or treat yourself to the tasty food and drink served up at on site food stalls: think hot dogs and frozen yoghurt. Upcoming films include Heathers and The Usual Suspects.

Price: Tickets cost from £12.50.
