Another EFL Cup campaign is coming to its climax this weekend, with Premier League big-hitters Chelsea and Manchester City having made it to the final hurdle at Wembley on Sunday.
The two sides have enjoyed plenty of success in this tournament over the years so we can expect a hard-fought contest to be played out under the arch, and our football expert has run an eye over the best bets available for the clash.
City and Chelsea eye sixth League Cup
With Chelsea and City both having lifted this cup on five previous occasions, the Citizens’ stellar Premier League form sees Grosvenor Sport make them the 2/7 favourites to come away with the trophy for a sixth time.
Having edged ahead of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, City are in strong contention for multiple trophies this season, but they will be hoping John Stones and Gabriel Jesus will be back in contention for selection after missing out on a Champions League trip to Germany earlier in the week.
Meanwhile, Eden Hazard will be looking to secure another trophy in a Chelsea shirt before possibly leaving in the summer, and the club’s top scorer this season is an attractive 17/2 to net first, with the same price available for him to score the last of the game.
Free-scoring City to unlock Chelsea’s defence?
Pep Guardiola’s men have netted an emphatic 20 times in their previous five domestic wins, however, the last five matches between these sides have failed to produce goals at both ends, and four of those five games ended with fewer than three goals registered on the scoreboard.
Chelsea are still on tenterhooks awaiting the fitness of keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, but even if the Spaniard is fit for selection, I think City will just have too much for the Blues on the day, so I’ll be backing them to win both halves at 5/4.
