Cheap Club Nights

Scala

Based in buzzing King’s Cross, this four-floor venue has three bars, two dance floors and a stage for live music.

Hosting weekend club nights and live music on week nights, Scala’s illustrious history of live music includes big names like Coldplay, Lionel Ritchie and The Scissor Sisters.

Club nights cost from a measly £3, with occasional free of charge events, while live music nights cost from £10.

Electric Ballroom 

From grunge to 80s classics, this legendary Camden club has something for everyone with different Djs on each of its three floors and entry from a purse-friendly £5.

In the past, the show has played host to top artists like Jesus and Mary Chain and Tove Lo. Gloriously rough around the edges, this club is authentically rock n’roll!

One of the biggest draws of this South London drinking hole is the 2-4-1 cocktails on offer every Friday and Saturday night before 11pm.

The party soundtrack here features a heady mix of 70s, 80s disco and dance music. If you fancy a warble, private karaoke booths are available for hire.

Add your name to the online guest list for free entry on Friday nights before 10pm and £5 entry before 10pm on Saturday nights.

Angel Comedy Club 

Fancy a giggle? Angel Comedy Club at Islington’s Camden Head pub offers free stand-up comedy every night of the week. To see new acts and hear new material, visit on a Sunday night.

Monday is impro night where established acts try out never-seen-before material, while Friday and Saturdays are pro nights where you can enjoy a laugh with established acts. Shows start at 8pm.

Stratford East 

Beat the Monday blues by checking out Stratford East’s free comedy night, aptly-named Comic Mondays.

The next comedy night is on 26 January. Check the website for future dates as the event doesn’t take place every Monday.

Free Gigs

Hootananny Brixton

Shake your booty to ska, roots, reggae and folk rhythms at Hootananny Brixton, which offers shedloads of free gigs.

Upcoming stand-out nights include the popular live band karaoke, where punters can belt out rock and pop classics with the backing of a live band on the first Wednesday of every month; and seven-piece band Hogcallin’, which features brass, saxaphones, a double bass and drums, who will be performing on Sunday 18 January.

Hip Shoreditch bar Charlie Wright’s hosts a fun-filled evening of soul, hip-hop, RnB and funk on Monday nights, with a house band and open jam session. And what’s more, punters can enjoy free entry!

Ain’t Nothing But… 

Hyped as “the best Blues bar this side of the Atlantic”, Soho-based Ain’t Nothing But…has free entry from Sunday to Thursday nights.

Located just off Regent Street on lively Kingly Street, this bar’s upcoming blues acts include the Astrojets on 20 January and Serious Blues Band on 21 January.

The Forge
