Andrea Atzeni: My Saturday Rides

Queen Me – 14:35 York

I’m up to York on Saturday after riding in Paris on Friday night where hopefully Rubis Vendome will have given me a good spin in the big Group 1 race. I start on the Knavesmire with Queen Me, who has a great chance for Kevin Ryan. She ran very well in the Commonwealth Cup, she wasn’t beaten far at all, and drops down to Listed level here, getting nearly a stone from the favourite as a 3yo filly. She’s high up on the ratings, very well bred obviously, and I really fancy her. I won the same race last year with Royal Aclaim who was also a 3yo filly getting all the allowances.

Sea The Casper – 15:10 York

I’ve been lucky in this race a couple of times previously and I’ve won it when drawn 20 and drawn 21, but this one is drawn 4 on Saturday, a good draw, which does help. I was booked for this ride two weeks ago; Simon and Ed were very keen for me to ride it. The horse was very impressive at Lingfield the last day, he should improve again, and the ground looks like it will be perfect for him. He runs off a mark of 102 so he’s well-in, and he looks like he’s got a very good chance in the race, but the betting is very tight. I’ve won it before on horses that were a bit better than handicap level, so you probably need that type of horse, borderline a group horse.

One Evening – 15:45 York

She is a filly who ran well the last day in a Listed race at Pontefract, slowly away, but finished strongly. Hamish is obviously the one to beat on form and will like the recent rain, but my filly could be competitive in a race like this, it’s a small field, and she ran well enough on the track the time before.

Onigiri – 16:20 York

She won first time up at Redcar, I actually worked the filly before she ran, and she worked quite nicely. The form of that novice has worked out well, the second won the other day and the third has won since too. Obviously, when a 2yo wins first time out you think about Ascot, so she ran in the Queen Mary, but the step up in grade was too much for her. Dropping back into a nursery off a mark off 78, she could be well in.

Land Of Winter – 16:55 York

He’s a consistent horse but because of that the handicapper never really gives him much of a chance and he hasn’t won for a while. He stays very well, he ran ok the last day at Pontefract, and he should appreciate the recent rain, he’s got form on slower ground, the slower ground the better for him.

Fantasy Master – 17:30 York

It’s a big field, but he won the last day at Doncaster quite nicely and rated 79 is probably still on a decent mark. I’ve won on him before, he’s got good form at Nottingham, so it was nice to see him win somewhere else and a flat track obviously suits him well. He’s never a horse who wins by a long way. He goes on any ground, we are drawn on the wing a bit here, but hopefully he can run a good race.

Have a great weekend,

Andrea
