Day 2 of Cheltenham’s November meeting is nearly upon us and I’m excited to get going.
It’s been fantastic to be back at the heart of jump racing and especially nice to see full crowds in attendance too!

Rocky Man (12.30pm)
He ran nicely on debut over hurdles at Chepstow behind Magistrato who he takes on again in this. He came out of the race well and should have improved since then. It will be hard to turn the form round but goes there with a chance and I think he’ll handle the track.
Third Time Lucki (1.40pm)
We were delighted with him on his chasing debut here last month. He’s been training well since and if he can put in another performance like that he should take all the beating. We’ve always thought a lot of him. We probably overran him slightly as a novice hurdler but he’s had plenty of experience and we’ve always seen him as a chaser. This race fitted in well.
Protektorat (2.15pm)
This has always been the plan and he’s done loads of work – I don’t think he’ll be needing the run. It’s always a competitive race but he’s a Grade 1 winner in a handicap which has to be a positive. I can’t see any negatives, it’s just if anything is lurking in there with a few pounds in hand. We’re very happy with him, he comes into the race in very good form and we’re looking forward to it. The race is worth so much money so it was the obvious target. We’ll make a plan after this for the rest of the season.
Bridget rides Spiritofthegames who ran nicely over hurdles at Newbury last week. He’s knocked on every door in all these big handicaps, it would be brilliant if it opened up for him.
Proschema (2.50pm)
He ran really well in the West Yorkshire Hurdle and is back in handicap company here. If he shows that level of form, he’s sure to go very close. It looked like he stayed at Wetherby and we’ll ride him the same way – be patient, let the race unfold and play our cards late.
Unexpected Party (3.25pm)
He won nicely when stepping up in trip at Wetherby. The handicapper has had his say, but he’s an improving horse and the trip and ground will suit.
Signal Point (3.55pm)
Her form was franked when Harry Fry’s Lady Adare won well at Uttoxeter recently. She’s improved over the summer and it’s worth having a go at a race like this as it’s so important to try to get these mares some black type. She has some experience at the track which is a big help.
