We were all thrilled with Captain Chaos winning the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster last Saturday. He really deserved to have his day in the sun as he’s been knocking on the door without winning for some time. It was a special day for his owners Mike and Eileen Newbould who are from Yorkshire.
Everything went well on the day and Dan played a blinder. He’d had a hard race at Warwick but he gave him plenty of time to get over that which meant I could ride him positively. He’s a proper stayer who loves to jump and gallop.
Plans are up in the air at the moment. We may look at Sandown on the final day of the season if the ground’s okay.

Champion Chase
I was down at Ditcheat on Friday morning to sit on Politologue who I’m delighted to be riding in the Champion Chase for Paul [Nicholls] and the Hales Family. This will be the first time I’ve ridden him in a race, but he was second last year and feels in really good order with himself.
It looks a very good Champion Chase but hopefully, he can go and run a big race. The ground will be fine for him and I’m really looking forward to it.
Soft at Cheltenham
I had a walk round the course with Dan, Bridget [Andrews] and Tom [Messenger] on Thursday. The ground is soft all over and when you’re walking round there it really gets the heart going. I’m very excited now, it’s like the run-up to Christmas when you’re a kid.
Hereford, Saturday
Northofthewall and The Rosary Flyer – 2:20
I’m on Northofthewall who has done well this season, but he is shouldered with a double penalty in this which will make life harder for him. He won at the track in December and is in good form at home so hopefully, he’ll go very close again.
The Rosary Flyer is a horse we’ve always liked, he’s a gorgeous son of Robin Des Champs, but he’s taken time and has been a bit backward mentally. We’ll see more from him in a year or two when the penny drops.
Go Steady – 3:30
He’s done well for his connections and won nicely at Warwick last time. He’s in great form, the track will suit and he’ll handle the ground. I think he’ll run very well.
Warwick, Sunday
We’ve got a few running at Warwick on Sunday but I’m just riding a couple.
Rollo and Checkinforsquirels – 2:00
This is a tough race for both of them. They are inexperienced and will be seen in a better light when they’re in their grade in a handicap further down the line.
Etamine Du Cochet – 2:30
She ran okay on her comeback run at Doncaster. We’re looking towards the Cheltenham Mares’ meeting and she can gain some more experience over fences here.
So Lonely and Robin Gold – 3:05
They were both disappointing last time and want a bit of better ground so it would be nice to see it dry out.
It Can Be Done – 4:10
She is in a handicap for the first time and has got a rating of 95. She hasn’t shown an awful lot so far and will have to improve.
Terrierman – 4:40
My first ride of the day is Terrierman who would have a chance. He ran well at the track last time and made a mistake at the second last which cost him a bit of ground. He’s been pretty consistent this season.
Delgany Delta – 5:10
This will be his first time out on the track and he’ll be sure to come on a lot for the experience.
