Ahead of matchday 12 in the Premier League, we have put together a VAR-free Premier League table to show the clubs who are most affected by the introduction of VAR in the Premier League this season.
Which sets of fans will feel the most disheartened? Read on to find out.
Everton on the up
Currently sitting in in 17th place and three points ahead of the relegation zone, our research shows that VAR decision have lost the Toffees three points so far this season.
This means that if VAR hadn’t been introduced this season, Everton would currently sit in the top half of the Premier League table in 10th – the big question, would Marco Silva be under as much pressure as he is now?
It’s a tough one to answer, but it’s hard to argue that Everton have lit up the Premier League this season, despite their VAR misfortune.
Brighton lucky to make top half?
Much has been said of Graham Potter and his innovative managerial methods, and with Brighton currently sitting in eighth place in the Premier League, there has been a clear improvement in the performance since Chris Hughton was sacked last season.
However, our research suggests that Brighton have had a favourable ride with VAR so far, and if it hadn’t been introduced this season, they would become the most affected club by position, falling six places to 14th.
This would leave them just four points off relegation, but we wouldn’t expect this would change too much the feeling of the club, which has clearly benefitted from the new manager bounce.
Wolves and Hammers on the move
Wolves got their season off to a slow start on the back of their impressive first season back in the top flight.
Many put that down to their involvement in the qualifying stages of the Europa League, and that may have been the case, but they have certainly found their feet now.
They’ve been back up to their old tricks with a 2-0 win over Man City last month, but VAR tells a completely different tale.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently find themselves in 12th place with 13 points to their name, however, our research suggests that no VAR would have seen them sitting pretty in seventh, and back in a Europa League spot, with a further four points to their name.
West Ham would be pushing them all the way as well, as they would also rise up five places into eighth had VAR not been interested into the Premier League.
