The penultimate stop of the 2018-19 PGA Tour season sees Illinois once again play host to the BMW Championship. The results of the tournament will shape the make-up of the top-30 Tour Championship at East Lake.
Many of the players will be hoping for their own ‘Miracle at Medinah’, with the 2012 Ryder Cup venue determining who goes into the revamped Tour Championship. With a 70 strong field, the stakes are high for golf’s best.
Our expert preview’s the best bets below – additionally, you can get all of our BMW Championship markets here.
Brooks Koepka
Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka will be aiming to carry his stellar form of recent years into the BMW Championship. The 2019 PGA Championship winner currently holds a 206-point lead over American compatriot Patrick Reed going into Medinah and will be aiming to emulate his good form in the lead up to the FedEx Cup.
With Koepka’s four major wins all coming since 2017, it is clear to see why the American is the favourite going into Thursday’s competition. The world No.1 has made 92% of cuts in 2019, positioning him as the form player.
His eight top-ten finishes from the 19 tournaments he has played are bettered only by Rory McIlroy and Spain’s John Rahm. I’m looking at him to make a real impact at this year’s Championship’s and backed at 8/1 with Grosvenorsport.com, Koepka is good value to win his fourth title of the year.
Rory McIlroy
Medinah is a special place for Rory McIlroy, as not only did he win the heralded 2012 Ryder Cup here, it is also the place where he met his wife.
Medinah and McIlroy somewhat go hand in hand, with it seemingly written in the stars for his good form to arrive at the eve of the latest PGA tournament. He sits third in the FedEx Cup rankings coming off the back of four below-par rounds in the Northern Trust this week.
The 2012 winner will be looking to become only the second player, after Tiger Woods, to hold multiple FedExCup titles. At 8/1, Grosvenorsport.com has backed Rory alongside Koepka as the joint-favourite.
Tommy Fleetwood
A player who has emerged in the last few years as a serious competitor on both the European and PGA Tour, Fleetwood comes into the BMW Championship with two top-five finishes in his last three tournaments.
He has made all the cuts in his competitions throughout 2018-19, also finishing with six top-ten finishes from the 16 tournaments he has entered. His second place on the challenging Portrush Open course reiterated his credentials as a player to watch out for.
At 25/1, Fleetwood is a long shot but if he makes a strong run early-on at the BMW Championship, it could be well worth a bet on him.
Patrick Reed
Patrick Reed certainly picked a good time to end his 16-month wait for a tour title. His Northern Trust win means he jumped from No. 50 to No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings this week.
He heads into the BMW Championship with plenty of confidence, coming off the back of his seventh PGA Tour win, Reed’s 16-under 268 means his chances of winning the $15 million top prize have increased greatly.
Reed’s good form is not reflected in his odds, and at 25/1 he could be a good outside bet for this week’s tournament.
