Grosvenorsport.com compares AJ’s current record with modern Hall of Fame inductees ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr. fight
Anthony Joshua will step into the ring for his 23rd professional fight on Saturday, but already boxing pundits and punters alike are debating when the world champion will be inducted into the sport’s Hall of Fame (HoF).
The International Boxing Hall of Fame recognises the achievements of the sport’s best competitors, with 131 boxers taking pride of place in the modern era, and research from Grosvenorsport.com reveals what AJ must do to join the likes of Muhammad Ali in the HoF.
The average record of a modern HoF inductee is 69 wins, two losses and 11 draws, with a KO record of39. Anthony Joshua is currently on 22 wins, with no losses or draws, and an incredible record of 21 KOs.
The Watford-born brawler can take one step further towards greatness by defeating Ruiz Jr. on Saturday in New York’s Madison Square Garden, and he would become only the seventh Brit to join the illustrious modern HoF when the time comes.
Already in the exclusive club are British boxers Judah Bergman, Ken Buchanan, Randy Turpin, Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe and Naseem Hamed, and Joshua is arguably not far from being added to that list.
Calzaghe’s record of 46-0-0 with 32 KOs is incredible, while Lewis’ 41-2-1 with 32 KOs and Hamed’s 36-1-0 with 31 KOs also puts them comfortably in the list of British boxing greats.
Joshua may still need to reach 30 or 40 fights, with a similar amount of wins, before being considered as a British boxing legend, but he still has time on his side and will be confident of racking up more victories to make him a contender.
