The Premier League Darts is in full swing as Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena gets set to host night seven’s fixtures.
Last week saw Michael van Gerwen silence his doubters with a 7-2 victory over the previously unbeaten Gerwyn Price after Rob Cross temporarily moved clear at the top of the table following a 7-3 victory over Raymond van Barneveld.
This week sees Gerwyn Price take on Cross, while James Wade also faces Peter Wright in what should be a tasty encounter. Our darts expert gives you his best bets to look out for in the most exciting match-ups this week.
Gerwyn Price v Rob Cross
Rob Cross will look to keep up his good Premier League campaign when he takes on Gerwyn Price, who suffered his first league defeat at the hands of Michael van Gerwen last week.
Price comes into this one after a 6-5 loss to 88th ranked Andy Boulton in the Players Championship on Sunday night, but his league form has been steady and this won’t be a foregone conclusion for Cross.
The man dubbed ‘Voltage’ is number two in the world rankings, and has faced Price five times before this fixture – coming out with three wins and two losses, so he’ll be wary of the threat Price brings.
I feel this could be a close one, but Cross has thrived under pressure in these types of matches and I think he’ll have too much for The Iceman and win 6-3, which is available at 5/1.
James Wade v Peter Wright
Both of these players have a chance to put pressure on the league leaders tomorrow night, and this is one of the most exciting matches of the evening in Berlin.
James ‘The Machine’ Wade and Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright are level on seven points in third place, and a win for either will give them the chance to put distance between one another.
Wade lost out to Suljovic in the Premier League last week, while Wright defeated van Barneveld convincingly in the lead up to a draw with Daryl Gurney, which is why he’s slight favourite to edge this.
In what should be the closest match-up of the evening, I’m going for Snakebite to win this one. I like the look of Wright winning with a highest checkout in the process, which can be backed at 11/4.
Michael van Gerwen v Daryl Gurney
Mighty Mike made his way back to the summit after a comfortable 7-2 win over Gerwyn Price last week.
The win was impressive given the Dutchman’s recent struggles and, combined with Price being in steady form, this shows he still has a league-winning mentality.
Gurney survived a match dart last week and admirably fought back from 6-3 down to draw 6-6 with Peter Wright.
The Northern Irishman is now three points clear of van Barneveld and will look to build on that with a win over the Green Machine tomorrow, but that won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination.
We saw Gurney provide a stiff test for Wright, and I can see him being dogged in his efforts against MWG tomorrow night too. That said, I still fancy van Gerwen to come out on top so I’ll go for a 7-4 win at 4/1.
