2019 is a massive year for the English cricket team as they host both The Ashes and the Cricket World Cup. However, their first challenge of the year comes in the Caribbean as England take on the West Indies in a three match test series.
Grosvenor’s cricket expert brings you the best cricket odds for the series.
England to push on from last year
After the recent struggles England’s test side have faced when touring abroad, a win away at Sri Lanka at the back end of last year was declared as ‘very special’ by Joe Root. England should beat the West Indies in this form and they enter the series as 2/9 favourites with Grosvenorsport.com.
Meanwhile, the Windies are coming off a disappointing series defeat to Bangladesh and they’ll need to improve immeasurably to win this series. They’ll go in as underdogs with Grosvenorsport.com, and can be backed at 13/2.
Bairstow to flourish at No.3
One of the most positive aspects about England’s test side was that they finally appear settled on a No.3 spot. The ongoing headache in securing a No.3 saw the side try four different players in four test matches before Jonny Bairstow hit a sublime century in the final test in Sri Lanka. Since then, the Yorkshire man has made the No.3 spot his own having scored 98 from 112 balls in their final warm up match.
With Ben Foakes taking up the wicketkeeping duties, Bairstow can focus on his batting and I think at 5/1, he’s a good price to be the Top Series Batsman.
Awesome Anderson still integral to the side
Despite turning 37 this year, Jimmy Anderson is just as important to the side as he was aged 27. Although the Sri Lankan conditions appeared to suit the spin bowlers, Anderson and the other seamers will be hoping for more success in the Caribbean. As cricket’s most successful seam bowler with 565 wickets to his name, Jimmy Anderson not only remains one of England’s best players, but one of the world’s best.
He’s the favourite to take the most wickets in the series for a reason, and albeit at short odds of 3/1, I still think there’s good value in that.
