GCOOP is coming back, and whether you’re a full-time pro or an ambitious recreational player, Grosvenor Poker’s online tournament series could change your life!
There’s £15,000 added across the week long festival – 25th November to December 2nd – including that all-important £12k GUKPT passport that will see the most successful player entered into every GUKPT Main Event in 2019.
That means you could follow in the footsteps on Andy Hills, who used his passport win to take down GUKPT Manchester for nearly £50k and eventually impress enough to become a full-time sponsored pro! Or the current Passport champ, David Gee, who only last month finished as runner-up at GUKPT Leeds for nearly £28k.
Winning the GUKPT Passport can literally change your life. Not only will you get free shots at winning big money (and don’t forget you get to keep all winnings!) as shown by Andy and David’s big results over the past two years, it really can provide a springboard into becoming a full-time poker pro. So many of the best poker players the UK has spawned over the past decade have cut their teeth at the GUKPT tables – Sam Trickett, Jake Cody, JP Kelly, Toby Lewis and more – and this could be your stepping stone to following and even surpassing them.

If you’re planning on making a run at winning the passport, make sure you do some planning to give yourself the very best chance. Obviously you need to play all or as many events as possible, that’s a given. If that means you have to miss your weekly night out with the lads, or have to do a deal with the missus where she takes over putting the kids to bed in GCOOP week and you do the next week, anything that gives you more chance to play and win points.
And talking of those all important points that will see you flying up the leaderboard, don’t forget that the Main Event, the £110 buy-in on Sunday end December, has double points, so is a must for your schedule. David Gee won the leaderboard, and the GUKPT Passport, with a huge final Sunday in last year’s GCOOP, it really can change everything.
Whether that changes your tactics depends on your position going into the final day and the double points opportunity. Just like in other events, you may decide it’s a win at all costs event where you need to be aggressive and play a high variance style, or, like in other events, you may decide to make sure you get into the points, keep the scoreboard ticking over, and kicking on once that goal is achieved.
There is also £5k in freerolls giving seats away in the week preceding GCOOP, so there’s plenty of reasons to get involved with all that lovely added money. While extra cash is always welcome, the actual events held over GCOOP week are great fun and great value, testing the mettle of even the most accomplished poker players, with hold ‘em and PLO, freezeouts and rebuys, heads-up, 6max and full ring, turbos and deepstacks, and buy-ins ranging from £11 to £530, with most of the nightly events either £30 or £11.
GCOOP starts on 25th November with three freezeouts, all with guarantees that might see a little overlay for the value hunters – the £11fo has £2k guaranteed, the £30 is guaranteed at £6k, and the £225 at £10k.
Monday (full ring) and Tuesday (6-max) are NLHE with one rebuy comps, with £30 buy-ins at the higher end both nights, and a fiver and tenner at the low end respectively. With guarantees of £8k on Monday and £5k on Tuesday for the £30 games, and £1k each on the two smaller versions, there should be plenty of value again.
Wednesday (28th November) sees two deepstack turbo freezeouts, a £30 buy-in with £5k guaranteed, and a £5 game with at least £1k in the pot.
On Thursday (29th) there are two old fashioned rebuys, the £28+2 game with £5k guaranteed and the fiver rebuy paying out at least a grand. As well as those two, there is a £225 High Roller with £10k guaranteed.
Friday (30th) sees the games switch again, with two heads-up comps (£30 guaranteed at £3k and £11 guaranteed at £1k) and one for the four card lovers, a £30 PLO with one rebuy that has a £3k guarantee.
Saturday (1st December) is Bounty night, with the £30 buy-in paying a tenner for every opponent you dispatch, and the £5 game giving £2 rewards for every opponent you bust.There’s more PLO too, with a £225, £8k guaranteed PLO High Roller highlighting Saturday night.
GCOOP comes to a close on Sunday 2nd December with four events making sure we finish on a high. The £110 Main Event has £25k guaranteed, and the £530 Super High Roller pays out at least £20k. There’s also a £30 freezeout with a £6k guarantee, and the final event of GCOOP is the hugely fun looking £10+£1 6-max turbo rebuy with a £3k guarantee.

Also back for 2018’s GCOOP is the ‘Back Your Pro’ promotion that sees each of the five #TeamGrosvenor sponsored professionals – me, Joe Beevers, Rick Trigg, Katie Swift and Andy Hills – have their own holding tank online. Jump in one (and one only or you get disqualified!) of those holding tanks, and if the pro you backed tops the special Grosvenor Pro Leaderboard, you and your fellow successful backers will play a £1,000 freeroll. You may as well back someone, and if it was me I would be backing, well, me, as it’s a complete freeroll, you’ve literally nothing to lose.
GCOOP is a great week of online poker, the variety of events really test your skills and the rivalry that is built up over the week means you don’t want to miss out. The tournaments themselves have plenty of value, with a bit of overlay and a some ‘creative’ play thrown in, and with the GUKPT Passport up for grabs and the life changer that can become, get planning and get involved!
Remember, there’s £5k of freerolls with seats to various events being given away in the week leading up to GCOOP’s start, and with plenty of satellites you can get in cheap and achieve results that may just change your life.
