Formula 1 | Mexican Grand Prix | Preview and Odds

Lewis Hamilton was unable to win the Formula 1 Driver’s Championship in Austin last week, as Kimi Raikonnen pulled off a superb performance to claim his first win in 113 attempts at the US Grand Prix.

This week, the attentions of the motorsport world are turned to Mexico City, in what is sure to be a great race.

Our F1 expert brings you the best bets from the Mexican Grand Prix.

Open race in the heat

Relatively new to Modern F1, the Mexican Grand Prix restarted in 2015, after a 23-year hiatus. In that time, Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Nico Rosberg have all triumphed here, and last year the Brit won the title at this very track. All three of the big teams have a great chance in this race, and Sebastian Vettel actually opens as pre-race favourite at 5/4, and is also 5/4 to qualify on pole.

Vettel needs to win to have any hope of holding Hamilton at bay for another week, and keep his own title chances alive, so expect lots of aggressive driving by Vettel. This aggressive driving could cause an incident similar to the one seen last year, so a safety car to be used at 4/9 seems a certainty.

Hamilton crowned King

Hamilton doesn’t need many points to win here, so even finishing in the top 10 should be enough. However, he is just 1/4 to place here in Mexico City, and 7/4 to cross the line first. It should mark a momentous occasion for Hamilton, and give him his fifth world title, only bettered by the great Michael Schumacher. Hamilton is also 33/20 to qualify on pole position.

Red Bulls need some wings

Max Verstappen won here last year, and the Red Bull team need to end a disappointing season on a high. They have clearly been the worst of the ‘Big 3’ and need to generate momentum going into next year. Verstappen is clearly the number one driver, with Ricciardo on his way out, and needs to turn his talent into wins. At 7/2 to win in Mexico, it wouldn’t be a major shock to see him victorious here, especially as Hamilton may just be focused on crossing the line. Ricciardo can be found further back at 12/1. I think that Verstappen has a real chance here, and would back him for the win.
