The Super League comes to its conclusion this weekend, with Old Trafford hosting the Grand Final where we have seen some great occasions in this fixture, as well as some very infamous moments.
With next year’s Super League set to be terrific, the only thing remaining from this season is to see who is crowned winner between the perennial ‘nearly men’ Warrington, and a resurgent Wigan in Shaun Wane’s final game at the club, ending a 30 year spell as both player and coach.
It is sure to be an exceptional match, and our Rugby League expert is on hand to give you the best rugby bets for the Grand Final.
Wane aiming to go out on a high
Wigan have had a good campaign this year, with John Bateman having a standout season, and they will be looking to give Shaun Wane, Sam Tomkins and Bateman the best of send offs before departing the DW Stadium for other destinations.
The Warriors squad is littered with talent, and it should be a magnificent game after they dispatched a good Castleford side in the semi-final. They enter the game as favourites at 1/2, which probably represents just how good they are, and if it wasn’t for St. Helens’ remarkable year, we would be talking non-stop about this Wigan team.
I think Wane’s side will come out of the blocks quickly, and will be the first team to reach 10 points in the first half, which is good value at 11/10.
Wolves keen to break Old Trafford hoodoo
The Wire are back at Old Trafford, and will be looking to break their hoodoo. It is their fourth Grand Final of the decade, and they have lost two to Wigan recently on this stage.
Warrington also lost the Challenge Cup Final this year, so will be looking to bounce back and claim their first Super League title.
The Wolves are another excellent team that fully deserves its place in the final, not least after dispatching St. Helens in the semi-final with a late brace by Tom Lineham.
Experience is all over this squad, and they will be itching to make amends for the surprise loss in the Challenge Cup Final to Catalans Dragons.
Warrington enter as 6/4 underdogs, but their experience and energy will mean it will be a full 80-minute game. I expect them to score last, which is priced at 11/10 with Grosvenorsport.com.
Tense Finale
Undoubtedly, it will be a measured, tense fixture with plenty of tactical kicking and moments of real quality from both sides. Either team to win by six or less looks good value at 7/4, but I think the real value bet lies with an upset win.
Wigan to win the first half, and Warrington to win at full time is 10/1, and I think Warrington will dig deep and find that missing spark that will cement themselves as one of the modern day powerhouses, and take the trophy back to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
