Silverstone hosts the British MotoGP this weekend, and as the season heads towards its conclusion the question on everyone’s lips is can Marc Marquez be caught? The Spaniard is having another electric season and comfortably leads in the riders standings.
Our MotoGP betting expert takes you through the best bets for the race on Sunday.
Reigning Champion
Marquez has an extraordinary record in MotoGP and has won the World Championship four times in his five seasons. He is on course to win again this year, and is in a class of his own in many races. He holds the record for youngest ever winner of the MotoGP World Championship.
He hasn’t however, won at Silverstone since 2014, his only victory at the Northamptonshire track. It is extremely difficult to overlook Marquez, despite his slightly unimpressive record in the British Grand Prix and is 7/5 with grosvenorsport.com to win his second British Grand Prix.
Old Favourite
Valentino Rossi has had a magnificent career, winning six MotoGP World Championships, and remarkably the 39 year old sits second in the standings currently. A four time British MotoGP winner, he clearly has the pedigree and experience to win here. Many fans wouldn’t begrudge watching Rossi claim victory in potentially one of his last Silverstone visits, and for him to pull off a magnificent win here is 10/1.
Home Hopes
Cal Crutchlow is the home crowds biggest hope of a podium in Silverstone this weekend, something he managed when finishing second in 2016. Yet to win a Moto GP World Championship, Crutchlow has nonetheless had a huge impact on British Motorcycling, becoming the first brit to win a premier class race in over 30 years. For him to win would be extremely surprising but I think there is an excellent chance he podiums, which can be backed at 5/4.
The other British riders on MotoGP rosters this year Bradley Smith and Scott Redding are both extreme outsiders, with neither winning a race so far in their MotoGP careers. Both can be found at 500/1 to the extremely patriotic.
