Volupte’s Voluptease
Fancy a helping of tassels with your afternoon tea? Voluptease invites guests to feast on finger sandwiches, sumptuous cakes and freshly baked scones, all while watching burlesque performers. And don’t leave without quaffing one of the venue’s heavenly cocktails, served up in teapots! There are loads to choose from, but resident favourite is the Dixie Dragon, which blends chilli and lemongrass-infused gin topped with raspberry puree. Guests are encouraged to don their finest vintage attire – taking inspiration from the 1920s to 1950s – so don’t be afraid to pop in some victory rolls either. Voluptease takes place at classic Americana restaurant Steam and Rye, owned by Kelly Brook.
Proud Cabaret
Set in the South Gallery of the 200-year-old, Grade II listed Horse Hospital in Camden’s Stables Market, this glamorous supper club hosts regular cabaret nights. For a night that focuses solely on burlesque, plump for the Beautiful and Damned event held on Saturday evenings. Inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tale of 1920s excess, guests will be treated to a night of love, money and decadence – as well as a sumptuous three-course meal. Lavish sister club Proud Cabaret City is based on a 1920s speakeasy with cosy booths and a stylish bar, where guests will be wowed by burlesque, cabaret and jazz while tucking into a modern British three-course dinner.
Madame Jo Jo’s
Situated in the heart of Soho, this legendary late-night club and live music venue boasts an illustrious fifty year history. Offering several cabaret nights, stand-out shows include the award-winning House of Burlesque’s Banged Up (think Chicago meets Moulin Rouge), which takes place on the second Friday of every month. Parties of eight or over can even enjoy a free thirty minute burlesque class before the start of the show. Other highlights include House of Burlesque’s Speakeasy, hyped as a “gin-soaked, fabulous live show” with saucy tassel-twirlers and foxy fan-dancing divas.
Cafe de Paris
Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the opulent Cafe de Paris recently unveiled a new summer line-up for its racy entertainment show, the London Cabaret Society. Your night begins at 7pm with an optional two or three-course meal in the chandelier-filled ballroom, before the cabaret starts at 8:30pm. Performers include burlesque and fire performer Scarlett Daggers, eye-popping hula hoop artist Anna the Hulagan, and flirty dance troupe Cabaret Rouge. After the show has finished, guests can enjoy an after-party with the performers in a private room. Don’t leave without trying the star of the Friday night cocktail menu, the Dita Von Tini, a blend of Stoli Vanil vodka, Passoa and vanilla liqueur mixed with passion fruit iced tea. Yum!
Cellar Door
Once a gent’s toilet frequented by the likes of Oscar Wilde, Joe Orton and Quentin Crisp, this intimate cabaret club is a tucked-away treasure in London’s Aldwych. The tiny club may only have a maximum capacity of sixty, but its cocktail list is huge. Recommended house cocktails include London Calling (gin, mint, honey syrup and lemon juice). For a taste of days gone by, there is also snuff available in various flavours! Come on a Thursday night for decadent burlesque show, Kit Kat Cabaret.
